“Police in Nyeri County are holding a 20-year old who faked a kidnapping before demanding an exorbitant ransom of KShs 30million from his parents. Martin Karari disappeared from his home in Gitathini where he lives with his parents, using his mobile phone; he sent a message to his father saying that unknown assailants who are demanding 30 million shillings for his release had kidnapped him. When his parents reported the matter to Nyeri Police station, police managed to track his phone since the boy was on his usual business. He kept his phone on chatting and talking with friends. He was later arrested and is to be arraigned in court for charges of money extortion.”
